Hello, my name is Sara Chechak, thanks so much for stopping by my practice, A Work of Heart Collective! Receiving therapy through A Work of Heart Collective makes you a part of a larger vision. Since 2018, my mission has been to create safe and strong alliances between individuals and communities to heal, respect people as they are, and be free of judgment and prejudice. A Work of Heart Collective is unique in the way that we honour these principles by offering diverse services, not-for-profit therapeutic programs at the community level, as well as affordable rates and sliding scales for our clients. A Work of Heart Collective is growing, so look out for more services to come!

Now a bit about my practice….

I am a relational therapist with a Master’s degree in Social Work specializing in human relationships. My work focuses on understanding the intricate ways our past experiences shape how we connect and attach to ourselves and others. With over 17 years of experience in social services and private practice, I provide compassionate, evidence-based support to individuals and couples aged 16 and older.

I help clients navigate a wide range of relational challenges, including divorce, affair recovery, healing after heartbreak, and rebuilding self-esteem and confidence following adverse relationship experiences. Whether you’re exploring single life, seeking to repair or deepen a partnership, or recovering from domestic abuse, I offer a supportive, non-judgmental space where you can heal, grow, and thrive.

As a trauma-informed therapist, I approach every client with sensitivity to the impact of past trauma on current relationships and emotional well-being. This means I prioritize creating a safe, respectful, and empowering environment where you feel supported in addressing your experiences at your own pace. My anti-oppressive, sex-positive approach ensures that all identities, orientations, and relationship styles are welcomed and honored in my practice.

In addition to traditional relational challenges, I work with clients to navigate issues around sex and intimacy, including concerns related to open relationships, non-monogamy, or evolving dynamics in long-term partnerships. I believe that exploring these topics with care and openness can lead to greater connection, understanding, and fulfillment in relationships.

My goal is to help you build a stronger relationship with yourself and others, cultivating peace, confidence, and resilience in your life. Whether you’re looking to recover from a painful experience, enhance your emotional connection with a partner, or embrace a fulfilling single life, I’m here to guide and support you every step of the way.

If you’re ready to take the next step in your relational journey, I would be honored to work with you. Let’s explore how we can create meaningful and lasting change together.

I work from a psychodynamic and relational framework, using an eclectic mix of various therapeutic modalities, as I believe everyone is unique in how they approach the therapeutic process. I use elements of psychoanalysis, body awareness-based approaches, narrative therapy, emotion-focused therapy, attachment work, somatic experiencing, Janina Fischer’s trauma therapy model, family systems theory, emotion-focused couples therapy, relational life couples therapy, narrative therapy, CBT, and DBT. Feel free to google search these interventions and see if they are good fit for you!
